Is IRS collection going up?

Short answer

Yes, in key spots. In fiscal year 2025 the IRS filed 214,099 tax lien notices, up from 196,996, and sent 339,137 levies, up from 313,792. New unfiled return cases jumped to 2,501,667 from 639,143.

Offers in compromise went up too: 38,797 were sent in, up from 33,591. But only 5,464 were accepted, down from 7,199.

More letters and levies mean more people searching for help.

Numbers are from the IRS Data Book, Table 4-1.
